FOUNDATION

Founded by Anjan Sen a dedicated professional in the field of Intellectual Property Laws and practice in India having closely followed the development of IP laws and practice in India for the last about 20 years and keeping in view the present day greater need for expertise and development of IP professionals in India under the challenging TRIPS and globally acceptable IP regime in India.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & MEMBERSHIP:

  • Graduated in Science in the first class with Chemistry and Physics as principal subjects from the University of Calcutta;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Laws from the University of Calcutta;

  • Qualified Patent and Trademark Agent;

  • Post Graduate first class Management Diploma in Industrial Relations from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan;

  • Obtained specialized training in Intellectual Property Laws & Practice in Japan under the Association For Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) Training Program, Japan and on Industrial Property Management from Japan Institute of Invention & Innovation.

  • Member Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APPA).

  • Member The International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI).

  • Member International Trade Mark Association (INTA).


EXPERIENCE:

  • 1988 - 1995: Worked with internationally renowned L.S. Davar & Co., Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, Kolkata – After an initial training in IP laws and extensive exposure to various IP Laws prosecutions and practice in India and abroad in various fields covering Patents, Industrial Designs, Trade Marks and Copyright Laws within a very short period of time was given independent responsibilities to handle drafting, prosecution as well as appearing in contested proceedings in various IP subjects.

  • 1995 - December, 2003: Partner in S. Majumder & Co., Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, Kolkata. Extensive independent handling of various IP matters proceeded both in India and abroad including drafting of patents for grant in India and under the advanced systems such as through the PCT, USPTO, EPO, German Patent Office, Japanese Patent Office etc., opining on reports of PCT / various International Search & Examining Authorities, suggesting amendments to avoid citations and provide for grant with best possible coverage in India and abroad, preparation for various IP registrations, prosecution and attending contested proceedings independently with special emphasis in Patents & Industrial Designs. As a Senior Attorney and Partner responsible for analyzing various IP Laws in various countries / regions for effective coverage in consultation with associates throughout the world. Advising clients in India on the transitional changes in IP Laws in compliance with the TRIPS provisions for an effective coverage in keeping with the latest applicable provisions of the law.

  • 2004, January Onwards: Practicing under Anjan Sen & Associates, Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, Kolkata specializing in various branches of Intellectual Property Laws and practice there under covering Patents, Industrial Designs, Trade marks and Copyright Laws.

  • Extensive exposure and analytic aptitude in drafting of complex techno-legal patent specifications for patent rights in India as well as under the advanced systems such as before the US, European, Australian, German, Japanese Patent Offices and PCT International Applications. Preparation, prosecution and strategizing Indian and foreign IP matters (in consultation with foreign associates) viz. Patents, Industrial Designs, Trademarks and Copyright cases including applications for registration and contested proceedings of wide ranging Indian corporate and multinationals dealing in variety of products such as consumer items, pharmaceuticals and engineering subjects as well as Govt. Departments such as Department of Science and Technology, Department of Atomic Energy and Educational Institutions amongst others.

  • Preparation and analysis of technology transfer, know-how / confidentiality Agreements, Assignments and Licensing of various IP rights / subjects.

INVOLVEMENT IN IP AWARENESS PROGRAMS & POLICIES:

Actively involved in IPR Awareness Programs and regularly participates as faculty member in workshops and seminars organized by various Govt. authorities such as Department of Science & Technology, Educational Institutes, R&D Centers, Universities and the Industry in India. Also involved in preparation of IP Policy documents involving techno-legal matters for R & D centers and educational institutes.
